His Attributes

The Lord thy God is among you, a mighty and awesome God.    Deuteronomy 7:21

An attribute is a quality or ability that is an essential characteristic of someone or something.   With regard to the Biblical Creator, He radiates a significant number of attributes which are revealed in Scripture and observed in nature.

The fruit of the Spirit are nine qualities that the Lord Jesus Christ desires to bestow on those who follow Him.   They, in their purest form, emanate from God Himself.   “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”   (Galatians 5:22-23)

When God revealed His glory to Moses at Mount Sinai He proclaimed as He passed by:   “The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, yet He will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”   (Exodus 34:6-7)

Because the God of Scripture is holy, righteous and very pure, unrighteousness and impurity are abominations to Him.   “There are six things which the Lord hates: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:   a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run swiftly to mischief, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.”   (Proverbs 6:16-19)
