Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Exodus 15:11
Skill is the quality of performing creative acts with a high level of expertise and mastery. With regard to the Biblical Creator, He is the personification of skill as the above Scripture declares, “Who is like unto Thee?”
Nature is replete with examples of the Creator’s skill:
Animal migration is the traveling of long distances for the purpose of finding new habitat. The Arctic Tern travels each year from the North Pole to South Pole, and back again, approximately 44,000 miles. Humpback whales travel up to 6,100 miles. Monarch Butterflies migrate almost 2,000 miles. Some Dragonflies travel almost 10,000 miles. Several populations of Green Sea Turtles migrate from Ascension Island nesting grounds to the Brazilian coastal feeding grounds, a trip of 1,300 miles. Consider the turtle’s navigational skills which allow it to locate an isolated 34 square mile Atlantic Ocean island.
An ecosystem is a community of organisms, including other internal and external forces, that interact with one another and the environment in which they live. Consider a lake’s ecosystem: There are varieties of living plants, animals and micro-organisms, in addition to non-living elements, that contribute to the interactions taking place in and around the lake. Rain, wind, temperature and light play a significant role with regard to the proper functioning of a lake’s ecosystem. Only a skillful Creator can design a system such as this.
Consider that a dead seed is planted, watered, warmed, and then it comes to life as a beautiful flower, tomato, tree, or water lily. How does a hummingbird go from 25 mph to an instant stop? Consider the amazing design that placed the earth 93 million miles from the sun, just right so as to not be too hot or cold for life to exist. Consider the complexities of the eye, the beating of the heart, the soul and spirit placed within a man. Every person must humble them self and say of the Creator’s acts of skill, “How vast is the sum of them! If they should be counted, they would outnumber the sand.” (Psalm 139:17-18)
Consider the moon, sun, planets, stars and galaxies that make up the universe. The precision and skill involved in the creation of the heavens is beyond comprehension. The size of the sun, earth and moon in relation and location to one another, as viewed from the earth, demonstrate the Creator’s amazing skill.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name.” (Psalm 103:1)
