Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Psalm 96:6
What is beauty?
What or who defines beauty?
Is beauty whatever I say it is?
Is beauty defined by whatever popular culture says it is?
Or is there a reliable standard of beauty by which we may compare all things?
To properly define beauty, one must start with the Creator who brought into existence all things as recorded in Genesis chapters 1 and 2. The Bible declares regarding Him:
- Your eyes will see the King in His beauty. (Isaiah 33:17)
- Out of Zion, God, the perfection of beauty, has shone forth. (Psalm 50:2)
- Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. (Psalm 96:6)
- Beautiful in elevation is Mount Zion in the far north, the city of the great King. (Psalm 48:2)
- One thing I have asked from the Lord … that I may behold the beauty of the Lord. (Psalm 27:4)
There are two ways by which the “beauty of the Lord” is revealed:
- The Bible, the word of the true God; and
- Nature, as seen through the lens of Scripture
