Every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Hebrews 3:4
Whether you drive along the North Rim or South Rim, linger at one of the many overlooks, take an up close helicopter tour or hike into the inner depths of the canyon, you are faced with the question as to how this great chasm in the earth’s crust came into existence?
From several overlooks you catch a glimpse of the mighty Colorado River as it snakes its way between the canyon walls. If you accept by faith the information on National Park Service signs and in its literature you would believe that “The Colorado River carved Grand Canyon in ‘only’ the last six million years.” You would then have to accept by faith that almost 1,000 cubic miles of earth were removed by this river creating the main canyon and its numerous side canyons. You would also have to accept by faith that some other colossal event or events layed down the many layers of strata that the Colorado River subsequently carved away. And then you have to ask, “Where did the particles of earth come from that formed the many layers of strata that were carved away?” Another Park Service sign declares that “Without uplift there would be no Grand Canyon.” So what force caused the uplift? The National Park Service declares that it was caused by the movement and collision of tetonic plates deep within the earth’s crust. But what force moved the plates and from where did the plates come?
The Bible declares, “Speak to the earth, and let it teach you … Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?” (Job 12:8-9) Grand Canyon not only displays God’s power, but also His righteousness in that rebellion against Him must be judged. “Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence … Then God said to Noah, ‘Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood … Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven.'” (Genesis 6-9) The Bible also states: “Thou covered the earth with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. At Thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of Thy thunder they hasted away.” (Psalm 104:6-7)
